In case anybody is interested, the Gaelic word for January is 'Am Faoilleach', derived from a very old word 'faol' meaning wild, or ‘faol-chù’ - the wild dog. So to Gaels this is the month of the wolf, when (now locally extinct) wolves would have been particularly active.
A-nis bidh fios aig daoine nuair a tha mi a 'mionnachadh aig dhaibh.
