NASA destroys rocket shortly after launch at Wallops Island

NASA lost $17 million worth of experiments and effort when a rocket had to be destroyed during liftoff from Wallops Island Friday morning.

Huh, a launch from a place I had never heard of until now.

Dang, that must smart. Reminds me of the Redstones in the 60's. I still marvel that the Mercury 7 watched those things blow up, and still had the guts to jockey to go up in them. 8)

So what conspiracy theory can we weave out of this . . .
I plead the Fifth, but if you want to get pushy I'll plead the Second.

The last remaining bigfoots (bigs foot? bigfeet?) were sent up in it until it "had to" be destroyed.

Or they were using it to send the rest of the Gitmo interrogation tapes to the congressional hearings, unfortunately... but take our word, we did not torture.

Wallops Island was a long time rocket launch facility, sort of the east coast version of Vandenberg

NASA has a whole site for it:

http://www.nasa.gov/centers/wallops/home/index.html

It is located just south of... Assawoman, Virginia. Seriously.

ANd to be fair:

http://www.vandenberg.af.mil/

These places launch a lot of research rockets, weather rockets, etc. Not the large scale stuff of Canaveral.
