Mr. Wizard dead at 89.

TV's beloved "Mr. Wizard", Don Herbert, died today at his home.

Discovery News

Although I never really watched any of his shows, I am thankful for his pioneering efforts to present science to children, paving the way for some of the science shows that I did get to see.

Mr.Wizard was my hero as a kid. He always had a kid or two as a sidekick, and oh how I wanted to be that kid. He made science interesting, though to this day I am not sure what "lycopodium powder" might be.

I don't know if i ever saw the later versions, I was watching in the 1950s. I suspect it was up to the same standards.

Don't think I've seen a single show, but it's always sad when a childhood icon leaves us.
