Poem: Planets Afire

Postby Lonewulf » Sat Feb 18, 2006 6:17 am

Yeah, I talked with Lance, and he said it was okay if I post up short stories and poems. I also figured this would make a nice diversion from all the insanity. I won't have many to post up as time goes on, but this is one I wrote for a poetry contest. It didn't actually end up submitted, but ah well.

This poem I came up with when coming up with my "Ages of War" saga idea thingy. It's a sci fi story setting I came up with a while ago (like, half a year ago or so), and is still being developed.

Heh, Animal said I'd have to be brave to post up anything onto this site. Let's see how brave I'd have to be.

Planets Afire

Planets afire;
Soldiers in mire.
Warfare eternal;
Ideals infernal.

Flood of fire;
e'er stroke higher.
Midnight train;
derailed by bane.

Bombing runs;
by the tons.
Destroyed cargo;
enacted embargo.

Population displaced;
No lack of space.
Refugees vacated;
freedom negated.

Clues by spies;
mistakes by lies.
Double-cross;
Nevermind loss.

There you stand;
Destiny at hand.
Stand tall;
The Duty Call.

Prepare to fight;
make it right.
Deny life;
allow strife.

Fight from flank;
Rise in rank.
Eventual rule;
Poverty null.

Iron hand;
Taken land.
Taking charge;
By and large.

Call for peace;
Land finds lease.
Settle down;
Peaceful drown.

Public infraction;
Rebellion in action.
Deny hesitation;
Call to reputation.

Planets afire;
Soldiers in mire.
Warfare eternal;
Ideals infernal.

- Fin

Yeah, it's not much. But I like it.

I like the storyline the poem had. I didn't like the cadence though. Rhyming poems tend to bug me...

That's just me though.

The only poetry I have ever fully understood or liked was Kipling.

You might like my next series, "It/She/He", based in the same galaxy. It doesn't rhyme, it's more like an ultra short story or meaningful phrases lumped together. Not finished with it, and I still have to make it "smoother"; small lines with big lines can work sometimes, but only when you get it right.

I like poems that seem random, but come together in the end. I'm not really sure why...

I'm going to take revenge on you.

Everything does make sense. Remember when we took the blood oaths at lunch today? I was a fountain of blood and my blood blob was bigger than yours and you don't bleed that much. So, my blood blob is better than yours, just like my randomness is better than yours.

Then after school we tried to ambush hug 14, but you hit me in the face. And my lip was cut on my razor-sharp fangs... I mean teeth... and I was bleeding my own blood. And according to the blood oath we both signed, I can't let anyone make me bleed my own blood.

I'm going to take revenge on you.

See there? I proved that randomness can come together in the end.
