Is Dragon Star just another name for Uranus?

Uranus was discovered by Bill Herschel. Herschel has the same number of letters as Thompson. Hmm. . .
They call me Mr Celsius!

I don't know. Uranus looks like a Star and Uranus looks like a Dragon. That has to be it.

As for the number of letters. Noone ever said I use my real name anywhere.

Yeah, but he does.

Can Uranus be seen with the naked eye? I think all you need is a mirror to see it. Anyway, I think Dragon Star would be a more appropriate name for Uranus.

Got you fooled at least.

Lance, in your case, it might take two mirrors to view Uranus.

A lot of people mispronounce Uranus. In fact, I've heard people pronounce it at least 2 different ways but can't recall ever hearing anyone pronounce it correctly. Given that it's such a difficult name, maybe renaming it is a good idea.

Why not rename it to Aether or Hemera, the parents of Uranus?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uranus_%28mythology%29

"Caelus" would be just as hard for people to pronounce, so the Romanized version wouldn't do much good.

I was hoping this 6 year old mentality would go away, I suppose I have severely unrealistic expectations.

I think the accepted way is actually a mispronounce to try to steer away from the obvious joke. I can remember back in college telling a coed that I was interested in studying Uranus and wanted to know if she would like to join me at the Observatory to get a closer look. They always acted as if I was implying something and seemed disappointed to have spent the evening looking at the sky through a telescope.

I just got off the phone with the International Society of Astronomers and I asked them if they would consider renaming Uranus to Dragon Star and they were very insistent against it.

I said, "why not? You reclassified Pluto, why not rename Uranus"

He said "Uranus is not a star. Uranus is a planet"

"It kind of looks like a star"

"No, sir, it is nothing like a star"

I said, "sometimes it looks like a Black Hole"

See. It really is a good alternative name. I need no other proof.

Ah, but there are 2 obvious jokes: urine-us and your-anus. Neither is the correct pronunciation.

Thanks! She's really pretty, isn't she. :D I do all my animated GIFs in Jasc Animation Shop. (I've got a random avatar generator up now, but Enya is staying in rotation.)

It really is a good alternative name.

Well given that Uranus was once catalogued as 24 Tauri, perhaps "bull planet" would be a more fitting designation. I'm not sure if it can be seen naked eye, but I've seen it with a telescope.
