What email addresses do you ban?
Gmail? Hotmail? Ru.com?

Yup. All the ones that mostly generate spam.

Edit:

Why?

Do you need a domain you can register a sock puppet from?

Not a sock per se, but I was going to change to my current email address. I'll just make up a forwarding address.

If you PM me your new email address I can change it for you.

It was a gmail account, but I just changed it to another email. Not a big deal, interesting though. So, you'd allow gmail accounts, but the autofilter throws them out.

Yeah, but I can put them in manually.

Last time I unblocked gmail we had 20+ bogus spam registrations in the first hour. There are bots that roam the web doing nothing but registering fake accounts on boards.

MANY of them.

What do you do about sincere posters (I know, an oxymoron)? I already have an account, but the message wasn't totally clear that that was the filter criteria--it just said the email address was not allowed.

Yeah, that's a problem.

Honestly, we don't get a lot of new membership and usually it's by referral. When it comes up we either create the new account manually or I disable the filters briefly. Which is how we got all the bogus registrations last time.

I should probably do something...
