Is there a solution?

Postby Мастер » Tue Nov 14, 2023 6:43 am

So more than two years since anyone started a thread in here . . .

Anyway, I am sitting by the pool right now, something that can be done here year round.

I have my computer, a tablet, and a 'phone.

What I do not have is wi-fi. So the computer and the tablet access the internet through my 'phone.

Upstairs, maybe not quite 100 metres from here (or maybe a little more), I have my wi-fi router set up inside.

I would like to use the wi-fi instead of the mobile data through the 'phone. But it is too far.

Is there some sort of portable range extension device I can use?

I'm not sure such a thing exists, I would think a range extender would have to be positioned between where I am and where the wi-fi router is, and I don't control that physical space.

2.4Ghz router should be capable of 300ft outdoor range if set up right. I think you can also buy 'long range' routers.

Yeah, I think because "I don't control that physical space" a router with a longer range wifi is likely to be pretty much all you can do.

Preferably positioned at an open window overlooking your pool.

Well, that can be improved. It is well inside, away from the window right now. The physical layout of the room is - well, not optimal for this, but maybe there is a way.

I've had decent luck with things like Macard WiFi Extender Booster, but I haven't used this particular one.
