Xena - Warrior Princess

It is late night, and after Star Trek ends, we get Xena - Warrior Princess. Personally, I'd rather watch Hercules from the same folks. And after two Xena episodes, we get two Herc episodes. Well really I'd rather watch shows about ancient Egypt or meso-American history or WW2, but History channel is wall to wall Ancient Aliens anymore, and Nat Geo is hung up on prison life.

Anyway, Xena comes on with a chorus singing the theme song each episode, and for the life of me I cannot determine what they are singing. I wrote that off for a long time to me not listening well enough.

SO I looked it up.

They are singing in Bulgarian.

Sung by, who else:
Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir

For the love of Sofia, how do I deal with that?

Tripe?

The wife and I went to a dim sum restaurant once. For the wet-eared, that is a place they roll a cart around with a bunch of small plates, and you just pick ones you like and take them. They will add up your plates for your bill at the end. SOme things look great, like nice crispy brown balls of something.

One little bowl caught my eye, "What's that?" I asked. "Beef" she replied. OK, I like beef. SO I grabbed it. We both tried it, and my "beef" turned out to be a tough chewy white substance with an eerie pattern texture. We looked at each other...BEEF?

Turns out it was tripe.

Tripe is very popular in Bulgaria (Shkembe).
But the slang usage is also apropos for the show in question. ;)
