The AutoBot in the 1,000,000 is stuffing things up.
It posts the same number several times in a row, then skips a bunch to get back in synch.
Have a look at the page with 520,950 at the top, for example.

So, if some of the numbers have been skipped, does this mean the whole thing is now invalid, and needs to be started over from the beginning?

Conjecture - is the problem occurring because there are currently three people with the autobot turned on?

I think it yes, it does that because there are several posts being made simultaneously. I've noticed it before too.
The bot calculates the result from scratch each time, subtracting the total post count from 1,000,000 and posting the result. So even if it gets out of sync like that, it rights itself.
