Lately I’ve been guilty of cruising Quora, looking at the questions and answers. I never post any myself.

Some of the questions (and answers) are quite good. Some are statements (usually political) disguised as questions. Some are just moronic.

I have to say, though, I liked this question.

Why is a nautical mile longer than a regular mile? Is it because the waves go up and down?

It's one of those moments when you desparately hope the question was a joke.

Don't know. Maybe everyone writing i joke question should be forced to use Comic Sans as the font.

To show the possum it could be done.

That took me a bit to get. Haven't lived in possum country for a long time. Here the gophers or deer are the 'roadkill du jour'.

As to the original question, I guess there are still people that cling to the whole 'waves go up and down' thing. Who has ever seen a 'down' wave.
