So, Boris has declared the measures against covid-19 pretty much over. From Thursday, no need to self-isolate if you test positive or even have symptoms. And no need to tell your employer - so go, pack on to a bus or train, on which you no longer need to wear a mask, and go to work! From 1 April, no more free lateral flow tests - instead, the Government envisage that a market for tests, which you pay for, will develop. To ease us towards that, those working in education are no longer advised to take regular tests. So. if you want to test yourself before going to see a vulnerable friend or relative, fine - but you pay for it. How many will decide to skip the test? How many will feel compelled to skip the test given that wage rises are way below inflation as it is - and have been for quite a while?
The good news is that on covid measures, Boris only has authority over England - the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish governments can keep/make their own rules. The bad news is that they'll be under severe pressure to follow suit - Sadiq Khan has already said wearing a mask on public transport in London, which he does control, will no longer be compulsory.
Either Boris has decided it's all too much and so just said, screw it! Or he's decided that he's unlikely to be PM much longer and so the fall-out will be someone else problem. Serve the bastards right for turning on him! Either way, it will be others who pay the price.
