I vaguely remember he gave me a first crude idea of 'sexy'.

I remember the early Reynolds as a Neanderthal kind of macho actor, then he made a seemingly purposeful switch to "I am a funny guy".

Smokey and the Bandit is a real stupid movie, and yet it is one of my favorites. Call it a guilty pleasure.

Sorry to see you go, Burt.

He's been in substantial pain for a long time, has suffered a lot. Sad news for us, hopefully, he's at peace and pain free.

I wasn't a big fan of his flicks either. But this gave me a bit of appreciation for the man, maybe more than the one-dimensional guy he usually portrayed:

I watch some of the car building shows, and on one, the builders were challenged to recreate the black Trans Am Smokey car from the movie. Which they did. Down to the smallest detail. And they even beefed up the motor and other performance aspects. The Challenger also said there was an extra wad of cash in it - like $50,000 - if they got Burt Reynolds to autograph the car. SO off the guys went to find Burt and do the deed.

Now I am sure this was all set up and they didn't just show up at Burt's door. But that is how it played on screen. They found his estate with the iron gate across the drive and from there they saw Burt hobbling in his yard with a cane, looking pretty frail. They hollered to him, and he shook his cane at them and mumbled something.

They came back later, and got in to see him, and showed him the car they had built. He seemed genuinely impressed. And they asked if he would mind signing the car. He agreed to. SO they presented him the glove box door to sign in gold pen. He seemed gracious and willing to have fun with himself. I appreciate that in a person.

Ultimately they took the car back, making it before the silly deadline they always have. They presented it to the guy who had made the challenge. He was most pleased, and then they opened the glove box to show they got the autograph, and got the bonus cash.
