Maybe not the face, or the voice, or even the heart of AC/DC, but definitely their brain, boss and centre - It's Malcolm's band, as their drummer once said.
Having quit playing in the band in '14 because of progressive dementia, he died peacefully in a nursing home in Australia, his second home after his native Scotland. Not a very rock'n'roll way to go, but he seems to have had a gentle end, surrounded by the people he loved.
For all my classic buffery, I love that band and their relentless groove, their street-corner bravado, the way their one recipe almost always works infallibly. I watched a few YouTube videos tonight, and I totally reommend the songs taken from their Live at River Plate gig in 2009. These are ageing guys up there. Brian Johnson is putting up a fight against his failing voice and creaky joints every second, but they totally still had it at that time.
