Congratulations for your 30.000th NBA point. Not many ahead of you now, and all the stuff of legend.

He's the first international player to reach the 30,000 point mark in the NBA. It's always a lot of fun to watch him; I hope he can hang on for another year or two.

I thought that was a decimal point and was wondering what the big deal was. :mrgreen:

How do you signify less than 1 without fractions?
And, more importantly, where exactly is Vörtsbörk ? ;)

No problem, we just have it the other way round. Thirty point zero is dreißig komma null in German, and groups of three digits in large numbers are separated by either points or spaces.

So 30.0 --> 30,0
0.01 --> 0,01
3,758,032 --> 3.758.032 or 3 758 032

The French do it that way, too. And of course, a thousend million are a milliard, not a billion.

Well, that was a parody, but with a German accent, of how an American would probably spell Würzburg, a lovely town with a beautiful castle, a cathedral, superb wines and a perennial traffic jam on the autobahn, situated in Upper Franconia, which is the northernmost part of Bavaria

In India they put a comma after the first three digits, and then every two. So a million is 10,00,000, but they don't talk about millions, they would say 10 lakhs, a lakh being 100,000 or 1,00,000 in their notation. Ten million is a crore or 1,00,00,000.

Well, at least metric countries don't need to know that if they see 6' or 72", that it means the same thing.
That crap gets old fast. As does drill sizing in fractions.
Then there is the evil of thread and spanner sizes: UNF, UNC, UNEF, BSP, NPT, BSW, BA... bla bla bla
Of course we can combine the confusion and ask what drill size is needed to tap a 1/4" thread in the hole.
It was a trick question. The drill size varies depending on which 1/4" thread you are cutting. There are actually five different drill sizes to tap a 1/4" hole. Don't even ask for a rolled thread instead of a cut thread.
The best part is that it's called, "a standard". It was even more complicated before it was standardized. lol

The tool collection for imperial has far more tools than in metric and is a hell of a lot more expensive and difficult to understand.
It's actually cheaper to buy a lathe and make your threads or tools, than it is to get the full set of drills, taps and reamers for imperial drilling and tapping.

Sorry for the off topic, I just figured if we were discussing how different countries do the same thing, this one is classic. Only three countries still use the imperial system, the USA, Liberia, Myanmar (formerly Burma).

Dragging up an old thread, but here's to Dörk ending his NBA career after
21 seasons (all-time 1st, with four more players),
all of them with the same club (all-time first, alone),
1521 matches (all-time 3rd)
>31420 points (all-time 6th),
and one NBA Championship ring (2011), he is looking forward, as he said, "to having ice cream and pizza for breakfast", doing hobbies, being wih his family and not having constant pain in his right foot.

Deep bow.

I'm not a fan of tall man sportsball but I can appreciate the longevity, and the loyalty to one club.
