Rebuilding of New Orleans

I have certain contacts in the field and I want to let everybody know that contracts are already being approved and personnel from MAJOR construction firms are already being sent to the area. New Orleans and the surrounding devastated communities will be rebuilt. It won't be long before construction help gets going (and I'm not talking about Haliburton).

That's good to hear, Puma.

I have this info on very good authority.

I don't doubt that is the case but I can't help thinking how many people on GLP say they have it on good authority that:

1) Chemtrails are true
2) The US Governemnt has openned death camps and are processing people daily
3) The Apollo Hoax is true
4) etc

New Orleans is too valuable as a seaport not the rebuild.

What? You mean that's not true?

I agree. I think the rebuilding process must start with the port and oil refineries. Once these industries are back up and running, there will be a demand for other business. Gradually things will start to build up around these primary industries and city will start to come back. Until jobs are created there is nothing to go back to.

I agree, the income producing structures must be rebuilt first. But I really can't wait till it's safe to party in the French Quarter again. Was planning on going down next week before the city fell apart.

How ironic that in those parades, people ride on objects called "floats"...

If they don't get the pumps fixed, they may literally be floats.

Bourbon Street and most of the French Quarter are dry. There are two bars open, and many of the people still living there.

Saw on NBC Dateline earlier, they have already had a Madi-Gras parade in the French Quarter.

That's my NOLA - they will party at the drop of a hat. I heard there was beer and shrimp in the French Quarter the other day (not that I would have eaten any shrimp given Katrina and flooding...)

I am going to give them a few years to rebuild then I am going to rent a place on Bourbon street for Mardi Gras and take the wife. I have been to several but she needs the experience :D and I have always wanted to be on the balcony during Mardi Gras (primarily so I could fall straight into bed as opposed to riding the trolley home).

There might be a lot of sea creatures in the streets of NO right now...

I've never been during Mardi Gras but I plan to in the next couple of years. I've always wanted to yell SHOW ME YOUR TITS to a chick and not have the cops called.

It's good to have goals in life.

Here is a tale of caution just for you Mr. Manly. At the Mardi Gras of 1983, your humble Engineer in Residence was in the French Quarter when I spotted an Angel. Being a leg man, I notice her prefect ankles and firm calves. I followed my Angel hoping to get a chance to speak to her when I heard those famous word "SHOW YOU TITS." She paused - was I going to get a chance to see, what I sure was, a perfect set? He  reached into his blouse and produced one of his tits and waved them to the balcony thus getting the beads and causing me great confusion  . Not that there is anything wrong with that :D .

I hope you get your trip Mr. Manly!

Edited for spelling

L-O-L-A

You know, my brother-in-law went to last year's Mardi Gras and came back with a couple sets of beads...I asked him how he got them, but he never did tell me. Hmmm....

I didn't read this thread, because I don't want to. I saw those idiots looting on TV. I thought to myself, "Did the tsunami victims loot?" No. I find it hard to believe that a third world is more civilized than a 'first' world civilization. This makes me so upset to see how these folks reacted during a tragedy. I'm ashamed.

If the tsunami victims didn't loot it's because there was nothing left to loot. Looting happens almost any time there is a disaster. Even in places you wouldn't think looting would occur like upscale neighborhoods. Yeah, sometimes it's an "outside element" that is responsible for it, but not always. Even upscale neighborhoods that have been unreachable for days have had some looting.

That was the down-side part of the disaster services work I used to do with the American Red Cross.

Lance, I'm ashamed and appalled at the reactions by our upstanding "Americans" during this time of tragedy. If anyone says differently, I'd be surprised that one could get into their train of thought. I noticed the folks whining were the ones on 'welfare'.

I used to be a victim of welfare, and I overcame it. I have my opinion on this tragedy!

In case it wasn't clear, I agree.

My only point is that it's the same everywhere.

Good for you.

I am considering breaking out my gear and going down there to run an ERV (ARC Emergency Response Vehicle) crew. That's what I do, feed people. It is most rewarding.
