Air marshals missing from almost all flights

http://www.cnn.com/2008/TRAVEL/03/25/si ... index.html

... fewer than 1 percent are protected by on-board, armed federal air marshals...

Now THERE is something you want advertised to the world.

Is this responsible journalism ... let the truth come out? Pressure the authorities to fix what is wrong?

The undercover "Air Marshal" programme is intended as a deterrent - criminal elements do not know whether they are present or not.

I guess they can now safely assume, not.

Do you believe every story you read in the news?

Out of 280 flights, what if we minus all of the express aircraft that fly under the major airlines name? You know, those 50 or less seater aircrafts. What would be the difference in statistics?

It's stories like these that keep hatred alive!

Really, a commuter flight from Dallas to Texarkana would not likely be of interest to terrorists. But a jumbo jet coast to coast that does not have many passengers most of the time, would be. So how ofter are those flights with Marshalls?

This story is so unbelievable that it makes me upset.

Why is it that every story I read, where an airplane is brought down peacefully, has a Marshall aboard?

I agree with Superluminal. It depends on the route.

Additionally, it depends on pre-screening at the airport from TSA.

There are so many factors to this story, but only the ugly is shown.

I hated statistics in university, and I hate statistics now. Statistics can be skewed so many ways depending on what you want the outcome to be. :P

Liars lie, and liars use statistics.

The three types of lies, in order of heinousness, are:

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

 That was NOT my objective.

The points you and Superluminal made were valid. A pity if CNN preferred to go for the sensational instead of the analytical and factual.

I'm not attacking you, sweetie. I, too, am addressing the story by CNN.

You just happen to have posted it.

I worked at a major airline for almost 10 years and during 9/11. I knowing and seeing what I believe as fact, this is just not a story that holds truth.
