From Digg.

Wikipedia also mentions.

Gary Gygax, founder of Dungeons and Dragons, has passed away today.

While I highly prefer GURPS over D&D, I am saddened as to this loss. Gary Gygax truly was a pioneer in the RPG field. He was also an author, and tied with J.R.R. Tolkien as #18 on "GameSpy's 30 Most Influential People in Gaming", in a 2002 edition.

He died at the age of 69. He was 6 years older than my mother.

The brighter the star, the faster they fade. If only us mere humans had their lifespan...

He got a mention in Order of the Stick.

Just thought I'd share.

I grew up reading his AD&D books. It's what got me into roleplaying games in the first place. I always dreamed of playing a game, but didn't really have the friends to take full advantage of it.

Side trivia: Gygax had a strain of bacteria named after him. ""Arthronema gygaxiana sp nov UTCC393"

That's funny...

I spent a lot of my teenage years playing D&D.

The dude needed a better saving throw . . .
