Yow. never touched a wingtip, but I've been in a couple that felt like that. Pretty scary.

The office investigating the incident today announced that the First Officer, 24 years of age, flew the plane, and not her captain (39). This makes her nerve and skill all the more applaudable, but it doesn't throw a good light on the captain - he choose this runway over another one that pointed 90° further North and would thus have had headwinds instead of crosswinds; and he chose not to do the actual flying himself...Hmmm.

Doesn't the tower usually choose and assign the runway, rather than the pilot?
