We're an Air Force family. If word of this got out ... I'd have to sit at the kids' table at family functions ... again ... I hate it when the six-year-olds make fun of me! Sigh ...

Is there such a thing?

The cause of the crash:

Carpenter said the pilots and crew followed procedures and "the aircraft actually performed as it was designed. In other words, all the systems were functioning normally."

However, a technique learned by some two years ago that had gone widely unknown and unadopted probably would have prevented the crash, Carpenter said. The technique essentially heats the sensors and evaporates any moisture before data calibrations.

The Air Force knew of the problem and the solution, but did not think to pass this on to all appropriate personnel??

I'm dumbstruck.

Most likely that procedure was unauthorized and had never been approved by flight safety.

Yes, it should be obvious that allowing the plane to crash was far safer.
