Enraged circus elephant stomps Thai man to death

The Associated Press

Published: July 21, 2007

BANGKOK, Thailand: An angry circus elephant in eastern Thailand grabbed a man who had provoked him and then stomped on him until he was fatally injured, police said Saturday.

Surat Kaenthip, a 30-year-old air conditioner repairman, had hit the six-year-old elephant while he was resting in an open field Friday in Rayong province, 140 kilometers (90 miles) east of Bangkok, said police Lt. Col. Thanit Saeniwong na Ayuddhaya.

"The elephant then grabbed the man's body with his trunk and hurled him on to the ground before stomping on his body," he said.

Rescuers were deterred from helping Surat because the elephant ran toward them in a threatening manner, Thanit said. They eventually succeeded in taking Surat away but he later died in hospital from a cracked skull.

Onlookers then managed to temporally placate the elephant by feeding him bunches of bananas, but he turned angry again, and dented a pickup truck parked nearby before his trainer — who had been away — returned and managed to calm him down, Thanit said.

Nope, I'm talking about the real kind of elephant.

It's really quite impressive, how fast something that big can run. Especially when it's running straight towards you...

Likewise, it's amazing how fast that can make you run.

Only because he ran into a rather large tree, oh, say 10ft in diameter.

Well, this is complicated, DS. I read Lance the same as you did, and I assumed you were acknowledging him, but maybe he meant it strait, so the credit does revert to you. I like it, no sucking.

I guess we have to ask Lance which way he meant it, so either he or you gets the points.

Now that I look again, I think Lance was straight on this. Ba' gets my nod for noticing.

Then again, this is a slippery bunch...

But I like the Bush/bush double metaphor.

And Lance, you didn't mean it in the sense Ba' used either. Overall, I really liked it.

I once pissed off a bridge. Have you ever been chased by an angry bridge? Not fun!

Now where's that confounded bridge?

I've seen a house fly.

I mean I'm no Dumbo, but...

I saw a peanut stand, heard a rubber band,
I saw a needle that winked its eye.
But I think I will have seen everything
When I see an elephant fly.

I saw a front porch swing, heard a diamond ring,
I saw a polka-dot railroad tie.
But I think I will have seen everything
when I see an elephant fly.

I seen a clothes horse, he r'ar up and buck
And they tell me that a man made a vegetable truck
I didn't see that, I only heard
But just to be sociable I'll take your word

I heard a fireside chat, I saw a baseball bat
And I just laughed till I thought I'd die
But I'd be done see'n about everything
when I see an elephant fly.

Oh, I didn't do it. I just did a google image search on "elephant fly" and that was one that came up.
