Thank God and Praise the Lord!

Cyndi's niece, Marsha (30), was born with congenital heart malformations that required several surgeries when she was in infant and several more subsequently. I think the last was 4-5 years ago. They have repaired the aorta and other major vessels repeatedly, including transplanting large veins from her legs in a procedure similar to a bypass. During one of those surgeries she suffered compartment syndrome in her leg and lost a significant bit of muscle tissue.

So the poor kid has been through a lot and always manages to get through it. She, her mother (Cyndi's sister) and the rest of the family (this is the South Dakota family we regularly visit) are among the evangelical Christian bunch so there is always a fair share of praising the lord and thanking god going on. But today, it was a bit more than usual.

Early this morning, Marsha suffered a dissected aortic aneurysm. This is a condition that can kill you even if it happens to you in the hospital ER. As it happened Marsha actually began coughing up blood so they took it very seriously, very quickly. To make a long story short, she was air-lifted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Immediate open heart surgery performed by a team of surgeons that was also flown in was able to repair the damage and save her. The surgery was completely successful and she is expected to make a full recovery.

We are all happy about this.

But all day long the calls for prayers were reverberating all over Facebook and other social media. "May God give infinite wisdom to the surgeons so they know exactly what to do" or "May the LORD guide the surgeon's hand". Stuff like that. Hundreds of messages if not more, all day. And then all the thanking began. God and/or the Lord stepped in and did as they begged and Marsha was spared. Praise Jesus!

So I have to wonder, if God and Jesus are so good at taking care of Marsha, why did she have a dissected aortic aneurysm in the first place?

I guess it's part of their plan... Or something.

For Arneb:
Marsha's Mom wrote:Ok here is the picture the doctor drew. I will attempt to explain. The three black items are Marsha's new stints. The went in her left neck by collar bone and put one in (top right) to get blood flow from left brain to left arm. Then the middle long black stint goes from the old one (dotted line) all the way down past the anurism. But notice this totally block flow to both her arms. Hence the third stint the v shaded one that Takes the blood from the left arm to the rt arm. So check this out blood leaves her heart headed to left brain now newly routed to left arm heads down to V turn and heads to rt arm. I can only say wow and thank you Jesus and doctors. We need continued prayer that kidneys keep working as the dies are hard on them. That no nerves were damaged and everything gets blood flow.

I have trouble comprehending the activities of humans, never mind divine beings.

God does move in mysterious ways, her wonders to perform. That is the main reason I don't follow many people on Facebook, the signal to noise is terrible.

Sometimes I don't know why surgeons are the way they are, but I sure know why they do what they do. Congratulations for an operation by a competent team, and after 300 mi of helicopter flight to boot!
There aren't too many places in the world where this young woman's life would have been saved.

Why God cosnpired to strike the girl down only to have her saved at the last leg, I can't fathom. Maybe he likes praise from naive people.

I have found a lot of the noise people post is reshared from another source. For example, one friend shares a lot of stuff from a handful of Christian sources. If you click the down-arrow on the posts, you can block anything from the source without unfollowing the friend. So it took just a few days and I was able to eliminate a great deal of that kind of garbage. But I still see anything original the person posts, which is generally about his dog, which is okay. So there is a way to get rid of a lot of it.

It's the only thing that makes sense.

I didn't know that, I just keep people as friends (I have about 8 ) but don't follow them, I just look at their feeds occasionally.

Edit to split the 8 and ) to read 8 ) rather than 8).

So I am either youthful or immature. Is there a difference?

I like to think I am old and immature, but functionally there is no difference.

And I prefer "mature but with a youthful spirit". It may vary geographically but here, to suggest one is immature carries a negative connotation.
