God "drops the ball"?

Is it okay to kill in the name of God? Can ethics, morals and technology peacefully co-exist?

God "drops the ball"?

Postby KLA2 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 9:21 pm

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson dropped a game-winning touchdown in the end zone Sunday in overtime against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After the game, Johnson's twitter account filed this faithy tweet:

@StevieJohnson13
I PRAISE YOU 24/7!!!!!! AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!! YOU EXPECT ME TO LEARN FROM THIS??? HOW???!!! ILL NEVER FORGET THIS!! EVER!!! THX THO...

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/11/2 ... ll/?hpt=T2

The only thing more absurd than religion are (some of) the people who believe in it.

If there was a God … given what else is happening in the world … how can this pathetic fool even think that his God’s top priority would be him catching a ball??? :evil:

And … what about ‘believers” on the opposing team? :roll:

Just so folks here do not think me a (totally) hate-filled anti-religious raving SOB …

This offends me.

… a Nativity Scene is part of a new American Atheists billboard. It is now up, on Rt 495, at Kennedy Bvd (on the NJ side, right before the Lincoln Tunnel entering Manhattan).

The billboard reads: "You KNOW it's a Myth" "This Season Celebrate REASON" "* American Atheists *Reasonable Since 1963 * atheists.org"

http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-521921?hpt=Sbin

Christmas may be religious based, but has come to embody and encourage the finest aspects of humanity… “peace on earth, good will towards men”. It is a time of good will, charity, and family. For some. :lol:

Most other religions (i.e. Muslim Eid) have a similar theme.

If you want to win a man over to your way of thinking, do not try to do so by kicking him in the balls. :roll:

To convince people that religion is conceptually wrong, do not attack the finest, the best, the most valuable and beloved humanitarian elements of it.

Is this an attack on those beloved elements? No. Will it be perceived as such by most of those the atheists’ organization hopes to persuade? I think so.

Pick your battles, and fight them wisely, to win. 8)

I;ve always wondered about sports figures giving God credit - did they think He was against the other team? The guy from the OP has since
'rescinded" his tweet. And A Propos of nothing, I have a rubber duck version of the nativity scene, complete w/baby Jesus and the three wise ducks.

There's been quite a bit of discussion about that billboard amongst atheists - I don't think it's got nearly as much support as others have.

Dunno who Stevie Johnson is, but he certainly sounds like an arrogant idiot with that message. Ouch. (And yes, I'm aware here ...)

And that is why I don;t call myself an atheist.

As soon as they start trying to spread their view tp pthers, they become just another religion.

{Oh, heck, I forget how to display the picture. So this is not as funny. Enzo told me how, but I forgot. Be nice if that info was posted somewhere on this board. "Posting for dummies." :oops: "}

ETA: Probably wasn't funny anyway. But still. :roll:
