Huh? I don't like anything I have heard about Facebook, and certainly would never become a member there. {Or ... HAVE I???}

It's not nearly as evil as I thought. It's kind of fun. I've been on it a few months now.

Facebook, for me, has become how I make plans with and talk to and keep up with my friends and family. It's really handy a lot of times.

Um, Lance, with great respect, and some trepidation, I ask: WTF is this about?

Perhaps KLA2 is concerned by the rather underwhelming response to the first post in more than 2.5 yeats by one of our members.

So:

Welcome back azazul!

It depends on whether you use a British yeat or an American yeat.

I too am ashamed to admit I have a facebook page, mainly because my daughter showed me how to make one. But I haven't been able to think of much use for it. If I knew how to link it here, I probably would. Why? I dunno.

Unfortunately having recently joined farce book as a number of friends of a mutual interest have also done so, my poor opinion of vanity sites has only plummeted. I see these as the equivalent of having your very own Predator UAV hovering over your shoulder so that you can scan in all your "show off" pictures for whoever/whatever/whenever activities and innocent bystanders and make them available for whatever good/ill/nefarious reasons to which the "constiratori" might choose to use them (lining cat boxes comes to mind but I make my felines void outdoors). It just seems that we're willing to let more and more privacy go for more and more nebulous benefits primarily oriented so that we don't have to actually interact with other Homo S.s. any more than is actually minimally necessary.

"No man is an island" .... perhaps but more and more women and men seem to be solely websites only financially connected via the navel to profit making institutions.

How I miss the three years I spent without running water and electricity in the early 1980s - if I only had the health still. (and, oh, how much I detest "emoticons" - sloppy shorthand to prevent truly exploring one's feelings!).

Too bad the "State of Franklin" rebellion failed - it's hard to trust someone living below 3000 feet!

Yeah, right on, rmercure. Not a member on Facebook, and no intention of being one.

By the way, I think this forum is for announcements specific to this board in general, so our posts may be moved.

Aw Noooo! They can't just indiscriminately move posts when they are still within the topic (facebook being part of the topic).

I have a facebook profile, after refusing for years to have anything to do with it. It was a decent way of making contact with old school friends and suchlike, but I really can't be arsed being subjected to the finest minutiae of the lives of actual friends who use the site to keep the world updated with such fascinating information as what they are currently watching on TV, links to music videos they remember from the good old days or exactly where they are at that precise moment, let alone such detail from very loose acquaintances and people who are little more than strangers.
